Tegal, Central Java-born illustrator Fandy Achmad’s (@bapakvampir) works are certainly one of the more harrowing kinds. His works tend to have this air of other-worldliness, in a more South-East Asian — or more specifically Javanese — sense that interweave together visual flair that feels significantly ‘traditional’ yet contemporary (or even ‘pop,’ if we’re stretching it more) with objects that belong, sometimes, to the esoterics and even abstruse in the context of today. Fandy admitted finding inspirations, or being influenced by local folklores, which he then combines with the aesthetics of psychedelic and experimental music. Something that obviously contributes to his idiosyncratic visuals.
