SyberWeerd was born in Japan to a Japanese mother and African-American father. Raised in California and North Carolina, she has lived around the world in places like Hawaii, Washington D.C., Rome and Sydney. Initially studying molecular biosciences and bioengineering, a shift was made to research- based art working in printmaking, installations, murals, and street art. Being a combination of two ethnic minorities, she is compelled to combine half this and half that to produce something new. Additionally, life experiences and personal encounters have brought her to strongly believe in socioeconomic equality and justice. Her interest lies in the visual language and dialogue encountered in capital-driven media from the past to the present and how it has played an influential part on the way we think about issues of race, identity, culture and class.
